Owens Dental Berthoud takes a special interest in those individuals from across northern Colorado and the tri-state area who need and desire extra time, specialized materials, and anxiety-sensitive treatment. As a holistic dental practice, we prioritize building and sustaining meaningful patient relationships and exceptional, biologic-focused dental care.
Biologic dentistry is based on several principles, including:
Biologic dental care supports a gentle, predictable, safe, noninvasive, natural, and comfortable patient experience. Nonbiologic care largely involves more aggressive, invasive, and reactionary treatment. We partner with patients to keep their mouths healthy and detect problems early. When problems are diagnosed early, we prevent the extensive damage that leads to the need for more involved and invasive treatments. Biologic dentistry and the oral health that it promotes also support your overall health and well-being.
Our team accounts for the connections between the mouth and the rest of the body in all we do. The health of other organs and systems can be affected by the health of the mouth. Likewise, the health and function of different parts of the body can influence your oral health. We prioritize those practices that benefit both oral health and total body health. As an example of this holistic approach, we regularly assess for any changes in your medical status, lifestyle, behaviors, and other factors beyond evaluating the condition of the teeth and gums. As needed, we may recommend changes to nutrition, sleep, and other aspects of your life that can influence your total health. These recommendations also promote the body’s natural healing capacity.
Biocompatible dental materials are an important part of the biologic dentistry philosophy. Along with other dental products and technologies, the materials introduced to your mouth can promote or inhibit oral health and total wellness. Owens Dental Berthoud has carefully selected materials that are most compatible with biologic tissues. These materials include composite resin and metal-free alternatives to silver-colored, mercury amalgam fillings.
In addition to being a mercury-free practice, we are also “mercury-safe.” Our team is certified in the Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique (SMART) by the International Academy of Oral Medicine & Toxicology. We have invested in the equipment and training on techniques to minimize mercury exposure associated with removing amalgam fillings that contain this toxic element. A nod to our personalized approach, we offer biocompatibility testing to identify and address any sensitivities you may have to materials and products.
