Benefit from uncommon approaches to common services:FAQs about general dentistry with a holistic and biologic focus
General dentistry gives your smile everything it needs to stay healthy and look your best. Since the health of your body is closely tied to how well your teeth function, our comprehensive services also support your overall well-being. At Owens Dental Berthoud, we take a biologic, holistic approach to care, understanding the deep connection between your oral health and overall health. We ensure that every service, material, and technique we use is safe and works in the best interest of your entire body, helping you achieve optimal oral and overall health without introducing new risks.
How often should I visit the dentist?
The “standard” is to visit the dentist for checkups once every six months or twice yearly. Every patient is different, so for you, it may be more or less! Our team will help you establish a schedule that works for you and addresses your unique needs.
What should I expect during a checkup?
During your visit, we will thoroughly examine your teeth and gums for signs of problems. We also closely examine other parts of your mouth, such as the jaw joints. Oral cancer screenings involve checking for strange lumps, bumps, and discoloration. We may take a small tissue sample for further examination or biopsy as needed. For what cannot be seen with the unaided eye, we use advanced imaging to get a good look at your teeth and overall dental situation. Our doctor can discuss his findings and recommend appropriate interventions and therapies.
Do you also clean my teeth?
Yes! We offer cleaning appointments as well as holistic and biologic dental services. Our skilled dental hygienists use a gentle hand and sophisticated tools to clean the teeth and gum line painlessly yet precisely. In addition to removing stubborn plaque build-up, they also remove surface stains to keep the sparkle in your smile.
What treatments/interventions do you recommend?
Again, this is very specific to you and what we find during the exam. You may, for example, be a good candidate for a “deep cleaning.” Scaling and root planing therapy involves removing bacteria and plaque from underneath the gums. The root surfaces are also smoothed to prevent more bacteria from accumulating. This treatment may be suitable for patients with signs of gum disease. Generally, we can avoid any treatment with proactive care.
What are some ways I can protect my teeth?
We’re passionate about educating our patients on the best techniques for cleaning their teeth and gums at home. By empowering you with knowledge, we help you maintain oral health between routine visits. In addition to regular checkups, we offer preventative services like oral appliance therapy. Custom-made appliances protect your teeth from damage caused by activities such as sports or chronic teeth grinding, ensuring long-term health and safety.
