Enhance Your Smile with Biologic Dentistry: Discover the Benefits of Bio-Compatible Crowns
Today, dentists have a wide range of materials to offer their patients. These materials can preserve broken or severely damaged teeth, restore poorly shaped or irregularly shaped teeth, and replace missing or irreparably damaged ones. At Owens Dental Berthoud, we are committed to authentic biologic and holistic care. We use only the most tissue-friendly, highest-quality materials for our valued patients across Northern Colorado and beyond.
Our practice prioritizes the use of biocompatible dental materials, ensuring they work harmoniously with the body’s natural systems. This approach helps us deliver effective treatments and long-lasting, biocompatible solutions that support overall health and well-being. We use metal-free materials, such as ceramics like porcelain, to produce dental crowns that are as pleasing to the eye as they are healthy for your smile (and the rest of you).
Why would I need a crown?
There are several reasons a crown would be recommended, such as when decay compromises most of the tooth’s structure or when a root canal has been performed and the tooth needs reinforcement. Crowns are designed to cover and protect teeth. They can then restore or return the tooth to its original or ideal shape, size, shade, and structure.
How did my tooth become weakened or damaged?
Teeth can become weakened for a number of reasons. Untreated decay, vitamin deficiency, grinding at night, diet, and genetics all play a role in the structural integrity of teeth. You may be a good candidate for a crown if your tooth has weakened or is vulnerable to further damage due to fractures or decay. Crowns are also appropriate for larger cosmetic cases, such as a worn, misshapen, stubbornly stained, or discolored tooth. They may even be used to replace teeth with bridges or implants!
How do you apply crowns?
The crown may be shaped from biocompatible porcelain. Once ready, it is fitted over the natural tooth. Your dentist will reshape the tooth to ensure the crown fits properly. Once everything looks and feels great with the “bite,” the crown is cemented or secured to the tooth. Crowns may also be attached to implants or used as anchors in dental bridges to replace missing teeth.
Why is porcelain so popular?
No dental material better reproduces the appearance of natural enamel than porcelain. It really does look like natural tooth structure. The similarities do not stop there. It is also very strong (like natural enamel) and does not present risks of adverse allergic reactions or sensitivities to the surrounding tissues. As a biologic office, we consider this characteristic a “must-have.” Another plus: Porcelain resists staining well to support lasting satisfaction with your restored tooth.
